This procedure explains how campaigns are structured and managed in Salesforce Commerce Cloud.

It provides a clear understanding of how Coupons, Promotions, and Campaigns interact, and why their configuration order is critical to ensure a campaign functions correctly.

This knowledge is required before creating or managing any commercial activation in SFCC.

• Campaign elements are interdependent.
  Missing or incorrectly linking a Coupon, Promotion, or Campaign will result in a non-functional offer.
• Campaigns must be created in the correct order.
  Creating a campaign before configuring coupons and promotions will prevent proper assignment and activation.
• Promotions can apply globally if not configured correctly.
  Incorrect qualifiers or conditions may result in discounts being applied to unintended products or the entire cart.
• Coupon configuration is case sensitive.
  Entering a coupon with incorrect capitalization will prevent it from being recognized.
• Scheduling errors can impact live campaigns.
  Incorrect start or end dates may activate a campaign too early, too late, or not at all.
• Customer group targeting must be verified.
  Assigning the wrong group (e.g. Registered only) may block eligible users from accessing the offer.
• Multiple active promotions may conflict.
  Lack of proper exclusivity settings can lead to stacking issues or unexpected discount behavior.
• Changes impact the storefront immediately after activation.
  Any misconfiguration can directly affect pricing and customer experience.

1. Understand the Campaign Structure

A campaign in Salesforce Commerce Cloud is composed of three elements:

• Coupon → Defines how customers access the offer
• Promotion → Defines the commercial benefit
• Campaign → Controls activation, targeting, and scheduling

👉 All three elements must be configured and linked together for a campaign to function.

2. Follow the Mandatory Creation Order

Campaigns must always be created in the following order:

1. Create Coupons
2. Create Promotions
3. Create Campaign
4. Assign Coupons and Promotions to the Campaign

👉 Creating elements out of order or missing assignments will result in a non-functional campaign.

3. Understand the Role of Coupons

Coupons define how users access the offer.

• Single Code
  • One shared code for all users
  • Example: seasonal campaigns
• Multiple Codes
  • Bulk-generated unique codes
  • Used for influencers or segmented campaigns

Key parameters:

• Redemption limits (per customer, order, or time period)
• Case sensitivity
• Activation status

4. Understand the Role of Promotions

Promotions define the benefit applied to the cart.

Types of promotions:

• Product Promotion → Applies to specific SKUs
• Order Promotion → Applies to the full cart
• Shipping Promotion → Applies to delivery costs

Key configuration:

• Conditions (qualifiers)
• Discount type (percentage or fixed amount)
• Product selection (SKU-based)
• Compatibility rules (stacking and exclusivity)

5. Understand the Role of Campaigns

Campaigns act as the activation layer.

They control:

• Scheduling → Start and end dates
• Targeting → Customer groups (Everyone, Registered, Unregistered)
• Assignments → Coupons and Promotions
• Experience → Which promotions are active

👉 A campaign activates the promotion and makes it available to customers. Watch out for requirements of your promotion (always select ALL instead of ANY)

6. Understand How Campaigns Are Triggered

A campaign is triggered when:

• A customer applies a Coupon (if required)
• The system validates:
  • Campaign schedule
  • Customer eligibility
  • Promotion conditions

If all conditions are met:

• The Promotion is applied to the cart

👉 If one element is missing or misconfigured, the campaign will not trigger.
