Manage and update product data in Salesforce Commerce Cloud (B2C) Product Catalog, ensuring alignment with ERP data and multi-market requirements.

• All products must exist in ERP
• Stock and availability are controlled by ERP and override staging data in production
• Products are shared across all markets
• Editing the wrong locale impacts other countries
• Incorrect translations can overwrite content for other markets
• Product must be locked before editing
• Product must be unlocked after editing to allow access to other admins
• Gen Code controls product content, attributes, images, categories, and SEO
• SKU controls price, availability, online status, inventory, and recommendations

1. Access and Find the Product

• Go to: Merchant Tools → Products and Catalogs → Products
• Search using:
  • Product Name
  • SKU
  • Gen Code
• Use Advanced Search if needed

👉 Always make sure you are working on the correct product before proceeding

2. Identify What You Need to Update

Determine the scope of your action:

• Localization / content update → work on Gen Code
• Price / availability / phase in-out → work on SKU
• New variant (new size, batch, packaging) → create or update SKU
• Product verification / QA → check both Gen Code and SKU

👉 Choosing the wrong level will lead to incorrect setup

3. Lock the Product Before Editing

• Click Lock

👉 This is required to make any change

4. Perform Your Update

Depending on your objective:

Gen Code (Content & Structure)

• Translate or update:
  • Name
  • Short description
  • Attributes
  • Categories
  • SEO
  • Images

• Update:
  • Price
  • Online status (activate / deactivate)
  • Availability
  • Recommendations

👉 Typical use cases:

• Phase in a new SKU → set Online + ensure stock
• Phase out an old SKU → set Offline
• Adjust pricing per market

5. Validate Product Configuration (Mandatory Check)

Before saving, ensure:

• Product is Online
• Product is In stock
• Product is Searchable
• Product is Assigned to a category

👉 This step ensures:

• Product appears on site
• Product can be purchased
• Product is usable in campaigns
• Product is visible in PLP

6. Save and Unlock

• Click Apply / Save
• Click Unlock

👉 If not unlocked, other users cannot edit the product

7. Final Sanity Check (Recommended)

• Confirm you edited the correct locale
• Confirm changes align with your objective:
  • Localization visible correctly
  • SKU correctly phased in/out
  • Product behaves as expected on site
